Notifications keep you informed about activity in your workspace. Configure them to stay updated without being overwhelmed.

Notification Channels

Trilo can notify you through multiple channels:

Accessing Notification Settings

Open Settings

Click Settings in the sidebar.

Select Notifications

Navigate to the Notifications section.

Configure preferences

Adjust settings for each notification type.

Notification Types

Messages

Configure chat notification preferences:

“Mentions only” is a good balance—you’re notified when you need to respond but not overwhelmed by every message.

Direct Messages

DM notification settings:
  • All DMs: Every direct message
  • Important only: Only urgent/important DMs
  • Nothing: No DM notifications
Most people keep DM notifications on, as they’re more personal.

Task-related notifications:

Mentions

When someone @mentions you:
  • All channels: Notify for any mention
  • DMs and assigned projects only: Limit scope
  • Off: No mention notifications
Turning off mention notifications may cause you to miss important messages directed at you.

Channel-Specific Settings

Email Notifications

Configure email frequency:

Email Content Options

Choose what’s included in emails:
  • Full message content: See message text in email
  • Summary only: Just notification, open Trilo to see details

Desktop Notifications

Browser/desktop notification settings:
  • Enable/disable: Turn desktop notifications on or off
  • Sound: Play notification sound
  • Preview: Show message content in notification
Enabling desktop notifications:
  1. Enable in Trilo settings
  2. Allow in browser when prompted
  3. Check system notification settings if issues

Mobile Push Notifications

For the Trilo mobile app:
  • Enable/disable all push notifications
  • Configure by notification type
  • Set quiet hours

Quiet Hours

Do Not Disturb

Set times when you don’t want notifications:

Enable Quiet Hours

Go to Notifications > Quiet Hours.

Set schedule

Choose start and end times.

Select days

Pick which days quiet hours apply.

Configure exceptions

Allow urgent notifications if desired.
Example schedule:
  • Quiet hours: 6:00 PM - 8:00 AM
  • Days: Every day
  • Exceptions: Urgent messages

Quick Mute

Temporarily pause all notifications:
  1. Click the notification bell icon
  2. Select Mute or Do not disturb
  3. Choose duration (1 hour, until tomorrow, etc.)
  4. Notifications pause until time expires

Per-Channel Overrides

Muting Specific Channels

Mute channels that are too noisy:

Open the channel

Navigate to the project or DM.

Click settings

Find the mute or notification settings.

Select preference

Choose muted, mentions only, or all.

Project-Specific Settings

Each project can have its own notification settings:
  1. Open project settings
  2. Find Notifications section
  3. Override default preferences
  4. Settings apply only to this project

Notification Management

Clearing Notifications

Clear notification badges:
  • Single: Click to open and mark as read
  • All: Click “Mark all as read” in notification panel

Notification History

View past notifications:
  1. Click the bell icon
  2. Scroll through notification history
  3. Click any notification to jump to the source

Unsubscribing

Stop notifications for specific items:
  • Threads: Unfollow threads you’re not interested in
  • Tasks: Remove yourself from task watchers
  • Events: Decline event invitations

Best Practices

Use default settings initially. Adjust based on what’s too much or too little.
For busy channels, switch to mentions-only to reduce noise.
Protect your off-work time with quiet hours. You can still check manually if needed.
Daily or weekly email digests catch you up without real-time interruption.
Some channels are informational but not urgent. Mute them to reduce distractions.

Troubleshooting

  • Check notification settings in Trilo
  • Verify browser permissions
  • Check device notification settings
  • Ensure you’re not in quiet hours
  • Check if the channel is muted
  • Switch to “mentions only” for busy channels
  • Mute channels you don’t need updates from
  • Enable quiet hours
  • Unfollow threads you’re not involved in
  • Allow notifications in browser settings
  • Check system notification preferences
  • Ensure browser is running
  • Try a different browser
  • Check spam/junk folder
  • Verify email address in profile
  • Check email notification settings
  • Whitelist Trilo’s email domain
